Okay, so I haven’t been dead these last months, but I have been hiding from the world, and I imagine at least one of you suspected I may have died. I didn’t. I swear. So, you can either rest at ease or celebrate my return from the grave. Your call.
I have been trying to write this post for the better part of 2013. Mostly in my head. The trouble is, it’s hard to find a way to explain exactly why every attempt I made to get any work of any kind relating to books or my career involving them without being, well, mean. So, I apologize if this post doesn’t satisfy all your curiosities, but I’m going to try. Without being mean. Luckily, the anger has faded enough that I think I can give you the most basic of facts without feeling like I’m launching some sort of smear campaign.
Basically, Parasite Publications and I had a falling out. Call it irreconcilable differences if you like. There was anger and hurt feelings on both both sides, but Sara King and I are on speaking terms again and I don’t believe there’s any lasting resentment on her end. Certainly not on mine. We don’t talk often anymore and she’s certainly busy working on her own projects (which are still awesome). Things just didn’t work out. And we’ll leave it at that.
It does look like Sara has decided to focus on being the brilliant author that she is instead of branching out to publish other authors. AJ Myers and Parasite have parted ways, resident Parasite artist David Mackey is no longer working for the company, and I’m told Parasite will not be taking on any more authors. So, it looks like Parasite has died. It was an interesting, though brief, era and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to work with the really great talent Parasite brought together.
In any case, I’m ready to get back to work all around. And it’s about damn time. I finally managed to read AJ Myers‘ second novel, Something Wicked, and (with the exception of the evil cliffhanger ending, for which I wanted to beat my dear AJ about the head because I hate cliffhangers) can say it was just as good as the first.
I’ve been focusing primarily on this blog (like the redesign?) for the time being. I’m writing up a handful of posts to keep in the reserve bank to help keep posts coming on the regular. Neither of my novels have seen any new words, so it may be a bit before we see another Three Sentence Thursday. Also, I think I’m going to attempt NaNoWriMo this year, at least in-so-far as the word-count goal. I’ll likely work on my Zombies primarily through the month, but my goal is simply to write something in the neighborhood of 2,000 words daily (excepting my Manthing’s days off when I’m typically incapable of writing because he’s RIGHT THERE and I’d rather spend time with him) for a total of 50,000 words in November. I’ll keep a separate Word doc to track my count and add whatever I add to either novel, short stories, and maybe blog posts to keep a running total of words. The point of it, for me, is simply to develop the habit of writing a lot every day I’m able.
Anyway, that’s my plan. I missed y’all. More to come soon.
Nice. Now I need to read the backlog to understand what you are talking about, lol.
It shouldn’t take you long. Only a handful of posts between the start of my time with Parasite and now.
Welcome back! Good Luck!!
Thanks!
